  Amazon Air Opens Cargo Facility The air cargo arm of online retailing giant Amazon officially opened its $1.5 billion facility in the Cincinnati area. The Seattle-based company announced Wednesday that it kicked off operations for its Amazon Air hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. It will serve as the central hub for the company’s air cargo network. Four years in the making, the hub contains an 800,000-square-foot sorting operation on a 600-acre campus that has seven buildings in all. Eventually, the operation will employ 2,000 people. The air cargo hub marks another step in a quest to have its own delivery service, which puts it in competition with UPS, FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service. Amazon Air’s new facility is 100 miles from UPS’ central hub at the airport in Louisville, Kentucky.
